SHRP2 Freight Data Collection
COMPASS received a Second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) grant in 2015 to collect freight data in Ada and Canyon Counties, including vehicle classification counts on key corridors, information on air and rail freight, and information on freight as related to pipelines. The COMPASS Freight Advisory Workgroup provided feedback and insight into this freight data collection project.
Deliverables from the project included:
- Data on truck types and volumes on the region’s interstate, highways, and major arterials. These data were used to inform COMPASS’ 2017 Freight Study.
- A set of protocols to share model‐based truck trip tables between the regional and statewide travel demand forecast models for future enhancement of the regional travel demand model to estimate and forecast truck trips on the system.
- Data to support integrating freight into Communities in Motion 2040 2.0, including maps of regional freight generators, key corridors, and problem areas that were considered in project prioritization.
- A case study highlighting challenges, implementation, and outcomes.
